All You Need to Know About the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center in Glendale

If you live in the Glendale area you may have driven past the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, located on Union Hills Drive and 55th Avenue.  This beautiful 5,400 square foot facility has something for everyone to enjoy and you don’t have to be a resident to enjoy it.

The center features a state of the art fitness center with cardiovascular and strength training equipment.  They also have an indoor walking and jogging track, great for keeping up with your workout even when it is so hot outside.  There is an indoor gymnasium with basketball and racquetball courts; there is even a rock climbing wall.  Whatever your interest is they offer a great way to stay in shape.  They also have personal trainers and nutritionists on staff to help you achieve your goals.

There is child care available too, so no excuses on not getting your work out in.  It offers child care from ages 2-9 but the staff is not responsible for changing diapers or giving out bottles.  Rates range from $2.50 per hour for residents up to $6.00 for 2 hours for non-residents.  If you have teens there is an activity room that is free of charge.  It offers billiards, ping pong, arcade games, big screen TV, air hockey, and game tables.  Kids 9 and older can use the area without supervision, but younger than 9 they must be accompanied by someone 16 or older.

They don’t call it an Aquatic Center for nothing.  The facility features a heated competitive lap pool, lazy river, two slides, a leisure pool, and aquatic playground.  They offer year round lap swimming and aquatic fitness classes.  The center also offers swim lessons and special events.  A pass is required for the recreational swimming and this is offered seasonally.  Swimming lesson fees range from $45 for residents to $60 for non-residents.  They also offer lifeguard training classes and swim lesson certification courses.

If swimming isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other classes to choose from.  There are dance and music classes, culinary and cultural arts, really something for everyone.  Rates vary whether you are Glendale resident or not.  You can decide on a monthly pass or annual.  An adult resident annual pass is $350, while a non-resident fee is $420.  The Aquatics Center is not included in the recreation passes nor is the child care area.

If you are wanting to spend some time outdoors when the weather cools off, just next door is a great park and also the skate board park is just down the way a bit.  There are also baseball fields and a dog park just behind the recreation center and the Foothills Library is just down the street.  So as you can see there is plenty to do at this facility to keep everyone in your family happy!
