Gorgeous 18-hole championship golf course nestled in the quiet foothills of northwest Phoenix. Designed by Brian Whitcomb, this par 72 layout offer subtle features that will challenge and excite golfers at every ability. The course plays 6867 yards from the championship tees, with a slope of 122 and a rating of 72.2. The 500 Club is truly unique in that it is one of the only public daily fee courses with the magical desert landscape and views of the valley mountains.

Legend at Arrowhead

Designed by Arnold palmer, Award Winning Legend Golf Resort at Arrowhead Golf Club sits on a remote mountain slope 26 miles northwest of Sky Harbor Airport. This beautifully laid out course features 7 lakes and 156 bunkers all surrounded by beautiful valley mountains.The Legend plays 7,005 yards and a par-72 from the championship tees.

Glen Lakes Municipal Golf Course

Originally built in 1966 and designed by Jay Hillhouse, Glen Lakes is located just 5 miles from the Gila River Arena and University of Phoenix Stadium. This course offers a par 33 course featuring 6 par 4s and 3 par 3s. This course can be challenging with 40 foot eucalyptus trees and many bunkers. The 9th hole presents water off the tee and on the approach.

Bellair Golf Club

Known as the best executive golf course by locals, this par-59 layout course features challenges that attract experiences golfers but a shorter more approachable length for beginners and juniors. Bellair features 5 par 4s and 13 par 3s measuring up to 185 to 210 yards in length. This course opened in 1973 and was originally designed by Lawrence, Hardin & Nash.

Grand Canyon University Golf Course

Formerly the Maryvale Golf Course, GCU Golf Course was designed by Ted Robinson Sr. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees. Features include new tee boxes, challenging greens, extended fairways, practice facilities and a 10,000 sqft. clubhouse including a restaurant and bar, second-story practice facility and fully equipped pro shop. A traditional walking golf course accented with beautiful greens, preserved full-grown trees planted in the early 1960s and distinct, memorable holes.

Why the Antique Capital?
Downtown Glendale is a historic district that is packed with over 70 antique vendors to choose from. If you love to buy and browse for antiques, this is the place to be. In the Catlin Court Historic District, you can even check out antique shops that are located in converted bungalows that were once used as residences in the area. Overall, the antique shopping district is made up of ten blocks of walkable, safe roads and includes a free parking lot, a public library, and a city park. This is a great way to spend a day or several in Glendale either treating yourself or enjoying the experience with friends and family.

Historic Downtown Glendale
Start your antiques experience by parking in the covered lot and exploring the historic downtown area. Pick up a walking map from the Visitor’s Bureau or print one from the city’s web site before you venture out for your day of antiquing. It’s a good idea to have some idea of the direction you want to take when you start walking, but remember that all the streets are laid out in a simple grid pattern, so it’s very hard to get lost in this area. There’s more in the downtown district than just antiquing, of course, so don’t forget to take some time to pamper yourself at a nail salon, grab a cup of coffee, or enjoy a bite of lunch or brunch with friends while you’re exploring.

13th Annual Teddy Bear Day

This event will be held at Murphy Park in Glendale from 10am to 4pm. Walk around town and check out special deals and discounts that will be going on during the teddy bear festivities and don’t forget to stop by the Visitor Center for more information about all the excitement! Kids in the family can enjoy arts and crafts activities at many locations throughout the area during Teddy Bear Day, too.

Movies by Moonlight

As part of Glendale’s Fall Family Movie Series, you can bring yourself and the whole family to the Sahuaro Ranch Sports Park for a fun night filled with movie magic! This is a recurring event that takes place on a monthly basis so don’t forget to check back again in October and see what’s happening next time, too. For September, the movie is Moana. Bring along your picnic blanket and snacks to enjoy a comfortable night outdoors on the grass at the park. Don’t forget to arrive an hour early so the younger members of the family can enjoy some fun activities before the show starts! Admission is free to this event.

U2 at University of Phoenix Stadium

If you prefer an activity that’s a little more grown-up, don’t forget about U2 in concert at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale on September 19! This exciting event is sure to draw big crowds, so get your tickets ahead of time if you want to enjoy the show. Tickets are still available!

Doing Business in Glendale:  Yes once again Glendale will be host to the 2015 Superbowl.  The first one in Glendale in 2008 put the city on the map as it was recognized as one of the most successful Superbowls in history. As Glendale prepares for this Super Event, there are other projects which have been set in motion; again helping to make Glendale a destination city.

St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center broke ground in Jan 2013 on its new 35-acre Glendale medical campus. Glendale’s 3rd hospital they will be investing more than 44 million for the new 24 bed location in 2014.  This year Midwestern University will also debut its new veterinary school.

In other big news, Luke AFB will have more F-35As assigned to its base in Glendale, more than any other in the Air Force. They will have 6 squadrons totaling 144 jets when the base fully transitions to an F-35A training center.

Glendale Glitters award-winning festival has been recognized by CBSnews.com as one of the top five holiday light displays in the country. This free event which just completed its 20th year typically attracts tens of thousands of people each year. The award also recognized the neighborhood and business participation throughout the city. So who were the other cities on this list? San Diego, Portland Oregon, Arlington Texas, and Somerville Massachusetts.  Yeah for Glendale!

Luke Days is Back!

Luke DaysLuke Days is back on the calendar.

Luke Days 2014 – March 15th and 16th at Luke Air Force Base is an open house and air show. The US Air Force’s premier aerial demonstration team, the Thunderbirds, will be performing both days. A display of the F-35A Lightning II should also be available for viewing. Previous crowds at Luke Days typically average more than 100,00 spectators each day. New Restaurants-Glendale Arizona

New Restaurants Coming to Glendale, Arizona

Glendale will be home to a new restaurants this summer.  One of the most anticipated openings is Oreganos.  Oreganos is new to the West Valley, opening in August 2013 at 6738 W. Bell Rd. (at the former location of Joey’s of Chicago)

The Italian eatery serves Chicago-style thin crust pizza, stuffed and pan pizzas, salads and pastas. For more information visit Oreganos.

Surprise is home to another new and exciting restaurant, Pinoy’s Bistro. Pinoy’s which opened in May 2013 in Surprise Arizona-just west of Glendale, serves Filipino and American Food. Currently they serve 4 kinds of noodles and jasmine rice in a Filipino style, beef, chicken and pork as well as some American fare of burgers, sandwiches, salads and even pancakes! Filipino food is sweet and salty and not too spicy.

Jonathon Torrato, owner of Pinoy’s Bistro is from llo llo in the Philippines. Four years ago his wife suggested they move to the United States for more opportunities. They settled in Surprise because of the large Filipino community. A year ago he opened up Pinoy’s  Best Gourmet Coffee in Arrowhead Towne Center. Pinoy’s Bistro opened May 8th in Surprise and it did not take long for word of mouth to spread throughout the community.

Torrato has plans to have live music on the weekends and eventually to add outdoor seating and Filipino barbeque..delicious meet on skewers.

Sprouts Comes to Arrowhead Ranch

Finally….Sprouts Farmers Market Comes to Arrowhead RanchSprouts Farmers Market

Sprouts Farmer’s Market will be opening a new store at 67th Ave and Deer Valley, in the old Basha’s location.  Basha’s left in 2009 and ever since then residents have been lobbying for Sprouts to take its place. The 27,000 square foot store will open in August and employ about 80 people. Check out their website for job postings.

For those not familiar with Sprouts, it is a neighborhood grocery with the feel of a local farmers market. You will find fresh fruit and vegetables, specialty foods, gourmet cheeses and barrels of whole grain nuts and sweets. Thousands of natural, organic and gluten free foods to help you make healthy choices for you and your family. Oh and their fruit and vegetables…sweet, ripe and their prices are great.

Arizonan’s Favorite Vacation Spots

San Diego Sicilian FestivalSAN DIEGO SICILIAN FESTIVAL, MAY 19TH

Arizonan’s have many ways to escape the summer heat and one of our favorite vacation spots is San Diego, Calif. Check out this fun event. What began as a neighborhood celebration 20 years ago has grown into a multi-block, colorful, musical and culinary celebration of everything Sicilian. Grape stomping,  Sicilian treats, cultural displays, folk-dancing and nonstop live entertainment. Plus a festive Bambino Zone and Bellissimo Car Show.

Headling this years 20th Anniversary event is The Sicilian Tenors, direct from New York City. Three Sicilian American tenors, Aaron Caruso, Elio Scaccio, and Sam  Vitale, will take the Sicilian Festival audience on a romantic musical journey during their dynamic presentation.

The Sicilian Festival is also the perfect venue for families with children. All children’s activities are FREE, and include a large inflatable slide, puppet theatre shows, face painting, and many other activities to keep the bambini entertained throughout day-without emptying their parents’ pocketbooks!
