Sonoran Desert SunsetThe city of Surprise is located bout 45 mins from downtown Phoenix. This city with about 115, 000 people was once just one square mile of farmland back in 1938 when ti was founded by Flora Mae Statler. Why was it named Surprise?  Well according to Statler’s daughter Elizabeth Wusich Stoft, her mother once commented “she would be surprised if the town ever amounted to much”. With our success, she would indeed be surprised and proud.

Recreation is a huge part of Surprise Arizona. The Surprise Recreation Center is home to professional sports and adult and youth recreation programming! Pickelball has made its mark in Surprise! The city of Surprise and the Sports & Tourism Department, each year, welcomes hundreds of pickleballers to the courts in a series of tournaments and events sanctioned by the United States Amateur Pickleball Association. This is where some of the best get to compete.   Surprise Stadium is the spring training home to the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers. The stadium also hosts  family movie night events, July 4th Fireworks and so much more.

In the fall our Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex hosts a stop on the Champions Tour, attracting tennis legends John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Anna Kournikova and Jim Courier! This 25-court venue is also open for tennis players to enjoy or take lessons.

The aquatic center has pools, slides and waterfalls for family summer fun. Dream catcher park is the city’s first all access sports facility. Surprise also has 8 golf courses. The White Tank regional park is close by for all of your hiking, biking and outdoor activities. Enjoy the clean air and the scenic views of the open desert spaces.
