10 Aug Glendale Homes for Sale- Sandra Day O’Connor High School
Sandra Day O’Connor High School is the newest addition to the Deer Valley Unified School District. This $44.5 million dollar school, located in the Glendale Homes for Sale neighborhood is located off of Happy Valley Road and 35th Avenue. It consists of grades 9-12.
Built in 2002 and home of the Eagles, SDOHS was named for Sandra Day O’Connor who is a native Arizonan and was the first woman appointed as a Supreme Court Justice. Headed by Principal Dr. Bryce Anderson, SDOHS strives “to foster and teach the attributes of integrity, self-discipline, perseverance, honesty, and respect for other people and the environment”.
SDOHS is a school of the Academy of American Studies, which means in part that the program teaches student’s using in depth lessons of U.S. History by incorporating lectures, visits to historical locales and national sites. It is a program designed to engage the students throughout their four year high school experience.
In addition to the usual extra-curricular activities such as marching band, choir, yearbook, student council, SDOHS offers AP and Honors Classes and Language Arts as well as special education classes and a host of other academic clubs. The campus also features a pre-school program on campus. The “Eagles Nest” preschool program offers full day and half day classes for children ages 3-5 taught by certified staff.
Of course SDOHS has a full athletic program as well. With so many choices of different teams, from football, golf volleyball, soccer, badminton, cross country, and swim kids are sure to find something they would enjoy. All participants are required to have a physical each year and tryouts are a part of the process.
The Arizona Department of Education has incorporated a new grading system for schools in the state. Most are familiar with the AZ Learns performance labels. This past year they have added a letter grade system of A-F Accountability Achievement Profiles to rate our schools. SDOHS received an Excelling Legacy label and a letter grade of “B” in the achievement profile.
Parents can check out their child’s grades using the online system. So there is no more saying the report card must have gotten lost in the mail. SDOHS is a beautiful, modern campus that any student would be proud to be a part of. For four years your student will learn the skills they will need to go out into the world and become fine young adults.
The boundary for students attending SDOHS incorporates most of the Glendale Homes for Sale area. West of I-17 to 83rd Avenue ( Westwing Mountain area), North to the Carefree Highway ( Sonoran Mountain Ranch area) and South to Pinnacle Peak Road. However the West side of 67th Avenue is not part of this schools boundary (Terramar area). As you know though as with any school in the DVUSD you can apply for open enrollment and see if you can become a student at SDOHS
